York Prep students are very active in service within their local communities. Some have expanded their volunteer efforts to include developing countries where they have assisted in the construction of schoolhouses, bridges, and parks. Our students are also encouraged to get involved in school-wide activities and in-school service such as theater, the school newspaper, school yearbook, student government, our environmental club, sports, and peer tutoring, to name a few.
Past initiatives have included a drive to collect toiletries for families supported by Ronald McDonald House as well as bake sales to raise money for Red Cross.
Most recently, the students in the Community Service Club set up a drive to collect items for animals in need, to be donated to local animal shelters. Student volunteers also organized and participated in a weekend beach cleanup at Jamaica Bay.
York Prep students have recently completed service for the following organizations: New York Botanical Garden, Lenox Hill Hospital, Central Park Conservancy, ASPCA, York Environmental Club, New York Aquarium, Wildlife Conservation Society, New York Cares, American Red Cross, Children for Children, Citywide Youth Opera, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Volunteers for Israel, JCC, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, UNICEF, Congregation Rodeph Sholom, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, Food Bank For New York City, and Habitat for Humanity.
