• Q. How has your admissions process changed during COVID-19?

  The Admissions season for the 2024-25 school year is officially in motion, and our application is available here.  After submitting an application you will be prompted to select a Zoom interview time slot and upload all supporting documents. If conditions allow, we will invite your child to visit York for an informal assessment.

  We are looking forward to getting to know you and your child – and helping you to get to know us – through a safe, welcoming, and transparent admissions process focused around our applying families' needs and questions.  

  Please note: 

  • formal standardized testing, ISEE or SSAT, is not required, but can be submitted
  • all interviews will be held virtually 
  • no creative writing piece required
  • digital materials will be sent to families for an informal academic assessment conducted during virtual interviews

  All Jumpstart applications must be supported by an up to date Neuropsychological and/or psychoeducational evaluation.

  In addition to an evaluation, an IEP can be submitted as another supporting document.

  Over the coming weeks and months, we encourage you to reach out to the admissions team at any time, sign up for our open house, and look over the digital admissions materials.  We look forward to getting the chance to “meet” and talk soon.

• Q. Is an application required to set up an interview?

  Yes, it is required for an interview. However, you can sign up for any of our Open House dates and tour the school.

• Q. How do I begin the application?

  September-October:

  • Sign up for Open House events.
  • Apply Online.
  • Optional: Register for the Independent School Educational Exam (ISEE) or the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Register online at https://erblearn.org/parents/admission/isee or at www.ssat.org.

  
  Summer:

  • Make a list of your priorities based on academic needs, type of environment, college guidance, location, and extra-curricular activities.
  • Research prospective schools using sources such as The Parents League of New York, the Internet, and parents of children in different schools.

• Q. What is the application process?

  1. Complete Online Application.
  2. Set up an interview by self selecting a time slot through the application portal.
  3. Request recommendation forms from current English and Math teachers.
  4. Please indicate if you are applying to the Jump Start program and if so, please upload an Educational Evaluation. A student cannot be considered for Jump Start without this report.
  5. Optional: Schedule an ISEE or SSAT test date for your child. You may call 800-446-0320, or you may register online at www.erblearn.org or at www.ssat.org.

• Q. When is the application deadline?

  January 11th, 2024. However, after that date, we begin rolling admissions. Please contact the Admissions office for further info.

• Q. What is the application process for International Students?

  • York Prep is a day school located in the heart of NYC. York does not provide boarding or allow homestays for international students. All international students must be living with immediate family members while in New York. York is an SEVP-certified school. If your child requires a Form I-20, he/she must be enrolled and the full tuition must be paid before a Form I-20 is issued.
  • All admission requirements are the same for international students, please refer to the application process page.

• Q. How do I arrange a tour and interview?

  Upon receipt of the application, you will be able to self select an interview time slot through the application portal. 
  

• Q. How do I check the status of my application?

• Q. When will we be notified of the admissions decision?

  Application Notifications:
  

  • Middle School Notification: February 13th
  • High School Notification: February 23rd

• Q. What kind of academic support is available?

  • We offer academic support for students with diagnosed language based learning disabilities issues called the Jump Start program.

• Q. What kind of enrichment opportunities are available?

  Students interested in advanced academic studies can participate in our Scholars Program.

• Q. What is the average class size at York Prep?

  The average class size at York Prep is 12-15 students.
